UK Virgin Media Attacks Net Neutrality

Slashdot is covering a story that basically states the Virgin Media CEO is calling net neutrality a stupid idea. This has outraged much of the online community (and rightfully so), with sites like StopVirgin popping up and urging users to talk about this.

I think this is going to be a long and drawn out battle. I think ISPs are going to do whatever they can to increase their profits, even if it means finding a way to cleverly get around all of this net neutrality talk and somehow figure out a way to get their money in other ways. It’s the same thing the industry is trying to figure out with the DRM dilemma in the music industry. Now they’re talking about placing a tax on the devices that people buy, which is a little more subtle than just coming out and making people pay for music.

If you’re unfamiliar with net neutrality, check out the explanation that Tim Berners Lee gave (founder of the World Wide Web).

If you want to show support for net neutrality, SaveTheInternet.com is a good place to start.
